Toyota recalls 1.093 million vehicles in the United States

Japanese carmaker Toyota will recall 1.093 million additional vehicles in the United States due to a technical fault, “he announced this morning on its website.

The new recall involves a problem of carpet that can cause blockage of the accelerator pedal. Approximately 4.2 million vehicles had been recalled last fall for the same problem, but Toyota has decided to include new models in this campaign.

The models affected are the Corolla, Venza, Matrix and Pontiac Vibe products in 2009 and 2010, and the Highlander produced between 2008 and 2010.

Tuesday, Toyota has also announced it was suspending production and sale in the United States for the eight models that was  affected by another problem, this time on the accelerator itself, which may in some cases remain locked in position key.

Some 2.3 million vehicles were recalled for this new problem, of which 1.7 million had already been back at the dealer last year for failure on the carpet.
